Here's what we are getting up to during this Summer term:

We have made a good start in Maths this term; we have investigated 2D and 3D shape, looking at reflective symmetry as well as angles. The children have enjoyed exploring turns and angles, moving onto compass direction. We have begun learning to tell the time using analogue clocks and shall continue with our learning to include digital clocks, 24 hour clocks as well as real life problems and reasoning. We shall return to Roman numerals and creating and interpreting graphs.

Later this term we shall be learning about money, denominations, adding, subtracting and finding change. We shall return to measure to look at measuring both mass and capacity, comparing and converting them.

We have had fun learning about play scripts and drama.  The children are now improving their persuasive writing techniques. This includes using adverbials, rhetorical questions, formal, emotive and exaggerated language.  We shall move onto adventure stories and explanation genres.

We have already started looking at the impact of the Blitz and WWII on this country as well as the causes. The children have generated questions to research the answers and we are looking forward to our trip to Coventry to visit the Herbert Art Gallery and the Coventry Transport Museum.  We shall explore children’s experiences during this time.

Our Science topic will be all about forces including magnets. We shall investigate the strength of magnets and magnetic materials. We shall also be looking at light and shadow. Our learning will include sunlight around the world and the movement of the earth. We shall be investigating how shadows are different at different times of day and how they are made.

Religious Education

We have begun to consider why people pray, looking at the different places of prayer as well as the ceremonies and prayer rituals. We are considering the reasoning behind this and drawing similarities and differences.

The children shall be learning to complete and generate their own online survey. We shall revisit internet safety and the dangers of sharing information. We shall also be sending emails with attachments to known people.

The children are enjoying learning and practising songs for the end of the year performance.

We have already completed our SRE this term and the children responded very positively and maturely. We shall continue to build on positive social friendships and responses.

The children will continue with weekly French lessons and will learn many words and phrases over the coming weeks. They will eventually be able to translate simple phrases and paragraphs from French to English and vice versa.

French games

The children will be starting their athletics topic this half term. We shall be practising their throwing and catching skills. They will be learning to long jump and high jump. They shall be improving their running techniques and skills through obstacle and relay races .

Children MUST make sure they bring the appropriate P.E. kit.

Indoor: pumps, shorts, t-shirt.

Outdoor: (depending on weather) warm jumper, t-shirt, trousers, shorts, trainers – pumps are not suitable for outdoor sports.
